Product Description

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX48S digital camera features an enhanced iA mode that includes Face Recognition, a function that "remembers" registered faces. When there's a familiar face in the frame, it optimizes the focus and exposure so that the face is in sharp focus and bright. iA mode also activates a host of functions that make it easy to get great shots.Intelligent ISO Control helps prevent blurring caused by the subject moving as you shoot. Intelligent Scene Selector selects the most suitable Scene mode for the situation. Intelligent Exposure adjusts the brightness of dark areas in an image. Face Detection AF/AE helps capture sharp, bright shots of faces. Tracking AF keeps the focus locked onto the subject, even if it moves. The 25mm wide-angle lens in this super-compact camera captures greater area of an ordinary 35mm lens, making it ideal for shooting group photos indoors or wide landscapes outdoors. The 5x optical zoom pulls distant subjects up close and the exquisite rendering of the Leica DC lens lets you capture nuanced, expressive photos.Using Face Recognition technology, the camera can find photos of people and sort them into categories. This makes it easy to display only photos of a particular person or people, or to set up a slideshow with just those photos. The Panorama Assist mode makes it easy to take a series of images to combine into a panorama shot, while checking the degree of overlap between adjacent shots. This is great for

I bought this new camera for my wife shortly before a reunion visit with high school girl friends. She loves it and when the other girls saw the photo results at least one remarked, "I need to get a new digital camera". When the wife is happy, everyone is happy.

Purchased this as a pocket camera. I have a DSLR, sometimes portability is key. It starts up relatively fast, focuses quick, and is almost always ready for the next shop. Only gripe is charging, it doesn't use a mini-USB. One has to remove the battery or use the proprietary AC adapter.

The pictures are great. It was a great purchase for us.
Great compact DSLR Backup!!

I'm a DSLR junkie and needed a compact camera that I could bring with me anywhere and take decent shots. This is the camera! Love the image quality as well as the look and feel of the camera. Would give a perfect review, but the lcd on the back is blurrier than my t1i, which is understandable given the price difference of the two bodies.
Great Camera, Just Not the Best Resolution

I really like the FX48. It's very portable, exposure control and color are great, and the 25mm wide angle lens is amazing. The images are very pleasant to look at. But if you're into really analyzing image detail, images are quite soft, especially in the corners or along the right edge depending on where within the 5X zoom range the lens is. You're not getting anywhere near 12 megapixels worth of image detail, but unless you plan to crop areas out of your photos, you don't really need 12 megapixels of detail anyway. If this camera had a lens with better sharpness I would have rated it 5 stars.

Another annoyance is that Panasonic's new firmware does not allow cheaper aftermarket batteries to be used. You're stuck with pricy Panasonic batteries, or one option in aftermarket batteries that I found that work (bestbat dot com).
Good pic quality but no zoom in video mode

I like the quality of the photos and the video, I am dissapointed with the video mode although the quality of the image is impressive. There is no ability to zoom when taking a video. You can zoom before starting the video but it has to stay put in the range you started from. I think I am going to return it, I wish Amazon gave a little more info in the details of the products so I could learn about this before purchasing. Now I don't know which camera to purchase for good video and camara features.
